Welcome to June! Summer is upon us, though it feels like I missed Spring with how busy I’ve been; it seems like I just wrote my last article. Somehow, I’ve been the Editor/Owner of the PA Musician Magazine for 6 years now. I’m not entirely sure how that happened or why everyone calls me “Sir” these days. It’s been a crazy joy ride; some envision a corporate lair where we store our massive antique press, printing papers day and night, the sound of the press always in the background: “KA Chunk KA Chunk”. Delivery trucks shuttle back and forth, laden with ink—lots of ink—while I’m out back sawing trees down to make paper. Of course, that’s not entirely true; I gave up on the trees after the first year—it was just too much work.
But seriously, the PA Musician Magazine is more than just a business or someone’s job. It’s a vibrant community, comprised of readers, writers, advertisers, and volunteers who come together each month to make it happen. Without each and every one of us, the paper simply wouldn’t exist. When I took on this task, many doubted it would last. However, what they failed to realize was that way back in 1982, the paper was set on a perpetual path of supporting the local music scene. As long as someone steps up and keeps it on track, it keeps rolling along. We’re fortunate to have such a strong scene, and even when it fades at times, it always bursts back to life. As they say, what goes around comes around and around. Let’s keep it rolling and check out some live music this month. The paper is brimming with events, festivals, open mics—you name it. Summer just keeps getting better! So, sift through and find some fun.
We’ve got a couple of new advertisers this month. First up is the new acoustic duo Crash & Cross, consisting of Scott “Crasher” and Damian “Cross”. Based out of Harrisburg, catch them at plenty of events this summer; they’re booked all over the area. They’ll be at Bucks Valley Winery’s Spring Festival on June 8th, Appalachian Harley in Mechanicsburg on the 9th, The Doyle on the 13th, Buddy Boy Winery on the 15th, Flinchy’s on the 20th, and Boomerangs on the 21st. And that’s just for June! Check them out at facebook.com/CrashandCrossAcoustic and Crashandcrossacoustic.com.
Next up is Soup Kitchen, an eclectic group of musicians serving up a tasty blend of musical genres, from cover tunes to originals. With influences ranging from The Stones to Tom Petty to The Record Company and beyond, they’ve been making waves in the Carlisle area. Catch the full band in Camp Hill at The Underground Live on June 29th. There’s a $15 door charge, and it’s a BYOB event. find them at facebook.com/soupkitchenband
Lastly, we have Raising Kane, a hard rock band featuring 11-year-old Kane Silva on lead guitar. It’s a true family affair with mom Lisa Silva on bass and dad on guitar, backed by Dave Ortega on Drums. Kane represents the youth of our area, showcasing that music will always endure, and the whammy bar will never die. A natural guitar player and performer, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. Catch them live on June 1st at Gamble Farm Inn and June 23rd at The Hillsgrove Hotel. Check out their full schedule in this issue. find them at facebook.com/raisingkaneband
Well, that wraps it up for this month. Thank you all for the support, and I’ll see you out on the road or at a show. If you’d like to join in on the fun, give me a call or send a text to 717-636-4203 or email joshnoll@pamusician.net.
