Editor’s Ramblings – October 2025

Josh Noll

Hello PA, welcome to Rocktober! I wait all year just to say that line. What a great time of year—get out and enjoy it!

Looks like Mechanicsburg native Bret Michaels was in the area, and while shopping at The Record Smith he picked up a copy of the PA Musician Magazine. It’s great to see he still reads the paper. Bret was once on the cover in November 1983 with his then-controversial band “Paris.” According to sources, that advertised show was billed as all-ages but was shut down due to the band’s not-so-all-ages content. We all know the rest of the story—Paris moved out of the area to the big city and became Poison. Thanks, Bret, for being an awesome performer and an overall rad guy. Check out coverage of his recent visit to Spyglass Winery in Chris Rider’s article on page 14. And remember—you never know who might be reading the PA Musician Magazine!

A couple of new advertisers/events to mention: first up is Phazez, a new band out of Camp Hill featuring some of the area’s youth who are already making a name for themselves. They’ve been hitting up Underground Live and playing at The Broad Street Market. You can catch them at The Abbey Bar on October 9th performing hits by Heart, The Cranberries, and plenty of your favorite indie pop-rock and classic rock tunes. Check them out on Instagram @phazez_PA.

Next up is Urgent – A Tribute to Foreigner. This six-piece powerhouse is packed with some of the area’s most seasoned veterans, delivering an authentic Foreigner experience by recreating the iconic sound, harmonies, and energy of one of rock’s greatest bands. They’ve been at it a little over a year now and have a big show coming up at The West Shore Theater on November 14th. Stay tuned for more on Urgent next month as we take a deeper dive into the band and its members.

Two upcoming guitar shows to highlight: The Best Guitar Show 2025 is set for October 19th at the Quality Inn, 300 Tarentum Bridge Road, New Kensington, PA. Hours are 10 a.m.–4 p.m. BUY/SELL/TRADE! $10 admission includes door prizes. For table rental call 814-215-4087.

Then there’s The Great American Guitar Show on November 8–9 at The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue, Oaks, PA. Hundreds of dealers, collectors, and manufacturers will be there with thousands of instruments—new, used, and vintage. Guitars, amps, accessories, and more! Presented by Bee-3 Vintage Guitar Shows. Visit bee3vintage.com or call 828-298-2197 for details.

On Oct 24th-26th the Union House will be holding a fundraiser all weekend long to benefit Tyler Starry a 29 year old victim of ALS. Stop out and help support him and his family in this fight. There will be raffle baskets, 50/50’s and more! The Union House always has great food and live music with Midweek Rush performing on the 24th and John Dougher from 5-7 and DJ Halo Music/Karaoke from 8-12 on the 25th. Don’t miss the Halloween Costume Party on the 31st with DJ and prizes. Get your costumes ready!
