Oh September! How I love thee… It’s my birthday month! Let the shenanigans begin!! I was going to start this month off by writing a super simple article with no details, but I truly do love all of the music I heard and I know that you all deserve some super mad props, so here goes…
The month kicks off with a whimsical Wednesday trip to Wolf Brewing for Jason Carst. My super sidekick Cindy was with me for this adventure. We sat and listened to Jason perform with not only his looper madness, but he also had a drum pad to add in some sick beats!
After Jason’s show the night was still young, so we zoomed over to Flinchy’s for Stephen Robert. Stephen had a nice crowd, but things suddenly got crazier after we arrived, surprise! We sang, we danced, we laughed… a great time was had by all.
On a Saturday Cindy and I had a 2-part day, the first half started at Appalachian Harley Davidson for their 2 Broke for Sturgis Party. They had Katz 22 and Six Whiskey Revival on stage. Even though it was a rainy day Katz 22 still had the pavilion packed and dance floor hopping. I’m bummed we didn’t get there earlier, but at least we got to see the last half of their show. Katz 22 definitely knows the songs to play to get people on their feet and having a great time. You can check out Katz 22’s schedule in this issue to see where you can get out on the dance floor and dance the night away with this amazing band!
I’ve heard so much about Six Whiskey Revival, I’m so glad our paths finally crossed, for only a 3-piece band these guys can really get the place rockin’! They play all of your favorite Rock, Blues, and even Southern Rock songs. Before they even started their show they looked around the room and labeled a table as Table #5, that’s the table they think is gonna be the “wild” table. Well, they just so happened to choose my table, and I’d say we most definitely lived up to the label! We had a great time partying with Six Whiskey Revival.
After we stopped back at Cindy’s to chill on her patio with her puppies for a bit, It was time to start Part 2 of the day. First, we headed to The Wharf for Crash & Cross. These guys have really been developing quite a following. Due to the weather Crash & Cross were inside by the bar. The tables were full when we got there with people finishing their dinner and enjoying the music. Crasher is so much fun to watch, you can always tell he’s having a great time every chance he gets to perform. He’s been learning and growing as a musician at every show! It’s awesome to see and hear someone who truly plays just for the love of the music! You can check out Crash & Cross’s ad in this issue, or online at crashandcrossacoustic.com.
Our final stop of the night was to the Iberian Lounge in the Hotel Hershey for Rhyne and Tabyn McCormick. I haven’t heard Rhyne for quite a few years, so when I saw their new ad in the magazine, I was intrigued and wanted to check out this father & son duo. Rhyne has played guitar for many years as a solo musician, it’s awesome seeing him pass the torch and the passion on to Tabyn. Rhyne does the singing, and Tabyn rocks out on guitar. They make quite the magical duo! Check out their ad in this issue, and see where they will be rockin’ out next!
On a Sunday afternoon I headed out to Snitz Creek Brewery for Roger Bowyer. The weather was cooperating, so he was playing out in the “garage”. I’ve been to Snitz Creek a few times, but I never realized this part of the venue was even there! It’s a cool addition to the venue, and it was an awesome place to hear some rockin’ acoustic tunes. Later in the month I also saw Roger at the Fredericksburg Eagle Hotel. Sunday afternoons are a great time for me to be able to catch some live music. The Hooootel has music from 5-8pm on the deck. It’s a great way to wind down the weekend, and get mentally prepared to face the week ahead! The Eagle Hotel supports live music every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Check out their full schedule in this issue.
Next stop of the month was down to the Rising Sun for Addi Grace. Addi Grace had the whole venue packed with people. Rising Sun was even making martinis with Addi’s picture printed on the top of it somehow. It was quite the amazing party! Addi is playing even more original music during her shows, and learning new songs every time I see her. Her confidence on the stage has grown substantially over the years since I first saw her. I’m thrilled to say I have Addi Grace merch now too! It’s time for Addi to get back to school, but I know she will still be playing music every chance she gets! Keep a close eye on her schedule in this issue and online, and get out there to support this Rising Star!
On a Wednesday night I happened to pop in at Flinchy’s and I saw that Shine Delphi was there. I just wrote about Shine the other month, it’s crazy that it’s been years since I saw him and now I’m bumping into him everywhere! No complaints by me though, he is so much fun to watch and hear! The Open Mic crew from Blue Sky Tavern popped in to the end of the show, and we helped liven up Flinchy’s for sure. Watching Shine burn up and down the frets of his guitar is entertaining to say the least. Plus it’s always so easy to dance to! What a great night of music.
On a Thursday night I was sitting at home when I saw Jason Carst’s live stream wearing PA Musician Magazine merch at The Doyle. I decided to pull myself off the couch and pop in there for his last set. As usual at a Doyle show there was a jam session happening when I arrive. Hank the Buffalo stopped in and Chris and Stephen were taken turns jamming with Jason. Of course Chris and Jason was instant Grateful Dead jam band fun.. Honestly, and I know this shock some people, but jam band music is my least favorite music. I can handle it in small doses, but I usually try to avoid it. HA! The Doyle Hotel patrons were loving it, and that’s all that matters!
On a Friday night Matt Jameson played up at the Stoney Creek Inn. Of course it was the day that a lot of the area flooded, and Matt was playing inside. Luckily we stayed nice and dry and Stoney Creek had a great crowd of people loving every song! Matt has changed his name to Matt Jameson Live on all social platforms, including his website! So if you’re looking for Matt Jameson Acoustic, and you can’t find him, that’s why! Not only is acoustic a hard word for people to spell, he wanted his name to reflect more of the personality of his shows. His shows are exciting and lively! I say they aren’t just a show, they are an experience, but I know he doesn’t like that.. But when you are at a Matt Jameson show you can’t help but join in the fun and start singing and dancing along! There is a certain energy to his shows that really is different than most other solo musicians in the area, and I’m not just saying that because I’m partial, I’ve heard other people say it too. So check out his add, find him online, at www.mattjamesonlive.com, and come out and see his show for yourself!
The night wasn’t over quite yet, on the way home Cindy and I stopped in at Underdogs on 22 for Hank the Buffalo. I was excited to see Hank the Buffalo has officially released their new merch. They’ve had stickers for a while, but now they are making shirts! Chris and Stephen are always stopping by everyone else’s shows every chance they get, so it’s awesome to see them get that love in return. I know I’ve said it a zillion times, but it truly is magical to see how much our local scene supports each other every chance we get. Spreading the love through music is truly what it’s all about! Check out Hank the Buffalo’s ad in this issue, and get out there and Support Local Music!
Matt Jameson skipped his July show at Falls Crab Shack to be front row for Foo Fighters! (like seriously, who does that..) Anyway.. His August show at Falls was packed! Seriously standing room only! He was obviously very missed. It was so much fun and so crazy that the requests kept coming, and he kept playing! He loves it when he doesn’t have to think about what song to play, and he can just play requests all night long! Matt’s song list keeps growing, and he is constantly learning more songs. Check out his ad in this issue, scan the QR code, go to his Song List, and get your requests ready for his next show!
On another wild, Wednesday night we kicked things off with a stop over at Boomerangs for Phil Cannizarro. It’s awesome that Boomerangs is booking more live music, not only the acoustic acts, but full bands too! Phil managed to get us on the dance floor for a few songs, I know the struggle is real.. Lol. After we checked it out for a set, we decided to head over to Flinchy’s for Derek Henry.
At Flinchy’s Derek had a surprise guest, Jason Shaffer from Full Tilt Productions was playing bass. That was a cool combo that you don’t see too often, acoustic guitar and bass. Again the open mic crew came out and we turned Flinchy’s into a crazy party to end the night. I’m so glad we made it there for Derek’s show after we missed him last time. I’m also glad that Flinchy’s music always runs a little later than everywhere else, so all of the musicians have a place to gather together and decompress.
On a Thursday night Matt Jameson played at Sturges Speakeasy. Sturges is another venue where the music goes until 10pm, so as the other musicians got done with their shows they trickled in to Matt’s show. Of course 10pm wasn’t late enough, so then we packed up Matt’s gear quickly and ran over to the Abbey Bar for Yam Yam’s Open Jam. The room was filled with so many talented musicians. I even ran into Nick Austen, the guy that I watched on TikTok to learn how to play ukulele. They do the open jam by having people put their name and instrument on a list and then they just pull people up on the stage to jam. It was cool to see so many talented people in one room, just jamming and having a good time!
The next night started early with my hubby’s work party at Adventure Sports in Hershey. We had a blast playing games and eating way too much food. When it was over I zoomed to Duke’s Riverside for Katz 22. I think I might’ve made it for the last 3 songs! Ugghh I again missed their show! I definitely owe them one. Even in just those 3 songs I was dancing around and acting like a lunatic.
After Katz 22’s show it was time to head to Flinchy’s for the tail end of Dave McCullough. I’ve heard a lot about Dave, and he’s played some BRP Entertainment events for us, but this was the first time our paths officially crossed. Dave plays a great mix of music and was a great ending to a fantastic Friday!
The next day was a DOOZIE. And for those that follow me on Facebook, I’m sure you saw some posts about our “Funnel of Fun” Day! Megan from the duo Megan & Dave, has seen me bopping from show to show, that Michele labeled as the “Funnel of Fun”, and before the Summer was over she wanted to join us on our adventure, and boy oh boy, we made it an adventure!! The day kicked off around 1pm. Stop#1 was picking up all of the partiers! We had a car full with me, Cindy, Michele, and Megan. Cindy got us all crowns, and since I was the DD, I had a magic wand to help keep everyone in line, and the traffic clear! Stop #2 was to Valley Green Beverage for their customer appreciation party. It was an awesome party with live music, by once again Dave McCullough! We had a sneak peek the night before, we loved it so much, we decided to come back for more! They had a bunch of their beer vendors giving out samples, I’m thrilled to say some even had NA versions to try, and I’m super thrilled that I found Mango Cart NA!!! WOOT!!! Thanks to Megan and Michele for buying the last case and getting me stocked up! Stop#3 LUNCH! A little bit of sugar to soak up their alcohol.. The Blue Sky Tavern recently released a new menu, and they had specials advertised at the brew fest, so we stopped there and had a delicious lunch! Stop #4: SpringGate Estate for The Unusual Guests. A first time band for all of us, and we loved them! They had some familiar faces in the band. They have some of the coolest merch I’ve seen, shaker eggs! We all had them and we were singing, dancing and having a blast. The best part about this day was people would ask, “what are you ladies celebrating”.. Our response.. “Saturday! Saturday!!” in our best singing voices. We were just out enjoying the weekend! Alas we had to keep spinning through the Funnel.. Stop #5: Cindy’s Patio for Petting Puppies and Peeing! George and Molly loved the lovins! Stop #6 the Copper Pub for the Keara Rose Trio. We came bursting in, full dance mode.. We were instantly singing and dancing and having a crazy good time. Keara’s voice is awesome! I really hope she didn’t mind us singing loudly at the top of our lungs! We only had time for the first set before it was time for Stop #7, The Doyle Hotel in Duncannon for Dr. Nyce! Who doesn’t love Dr. Nyce!? We came rolling into Duncannon jamming to “Get Low”. We definitely got stared at by the locals, that’s for sure. Dr. Nyce was thrilled we were there bringing our insane amount of energy to the tiny, packed Doyle. We were very grateful that when I called and did a little name drop, we were able to get reservations! We were able to get some food, and listen to Dr. Nyce, and we squeezed in some dancing of course! But alas, here we go again.. Stop #8, back to SpringGate Estate for Love Rocket! They played SpringGate a month or so ago, and I knew Megan would LOVE the 90s music, so they were a must-stop for sure! We instantly kicked the energy up at SpringGate and everyone kept moving in closer and eventually we had the dance floor packed for the last set. We did get the guys in trouble when we asked for an encore and they got the axe from management. Whoops! I guess we were a little loud. HAHA! Stop #9, was appropriately Flinchy’s for All About Chuck! Chuck was so surprised to see us there and couldn’t believe we were still standing! Neither could we!! Megan called in her emergency rescue man, her hubby to come pick her up at Flinchy’s. I know she had fun, but alas, you can only handle so much Funnel of Fun. I think it’s safe to say, she came, she saw, she conquered! HA! What a glorious day with friends! We are all so lucky to have each other!
Sunday Funday was next. I had great plans, but then there was a greater one.. My SON CAME HOME!! Zack who was on his wild west adventure finally made it home!! While I was tracking his trek across PA, I also saw Crash & Wally playing at Flinchy’s, and they were BOTH wearing PA Musician Magazine merch! They understood the assignment, HA! Mom was at my house waiting for Zack with me so we stopped and grabbed Cindy and ran to Flinchy’s for a bit to help kill the time and support some great music. Crasher has been jamming with some fill-in musicians a few times recently. It’s pretty awesome again how the music scene helps each other out when things come up. The train wreck deck was slammed full of people. It truly is a magical Sunday Funday place to be! After their show I had just enough time to zoom home and make some dinner for my boy! Gotta admit, this Mamma Bear is so happy to have him home. I really wanted him home for my birthday, and he will be! And it’s also his birthday month, September 11th! I can’t wait to celebrate with my little boy, even though he’s all grown up, he will be 22! Happy Birthday Zacky Tiger!!!
On a Wednesday night, Cindy and I decided to try something new, so we headed to Zero Day Brewing on 3rd St. for Natalie Ness. Another new musician for my ears. I’ve heard a lot about her, and so glad our paths finally crossed. For her first set she played the keyboard, but then the 2nd set she completely mixed it up and played guitar! She was super talented. I loved how she used the old school binder of songs, and definitely had her process down for singing song after song, and keeping us all entertained.
One thing for sure is I never know where I’ll wind up and what I’ll do, but whatever it is, most likely it’s gonna be fun!! I absolutely loved Megan’s post on their Megan & Dave page to describe her Funnel Of Fun experience. We posed in front of a canopy that had #WeDeliverFun, and throughout that day, we definitely did! When the people watching your show truly engage with the performer, and the performer engages back, that’s when the magic happens! It’s electrifying for everyone. As with most things in life, every experience you have, is determined by the energy you put into it!
I’ll be away 3 out of 4 weekends in September, but I’m sure you’ll still catch me here and there and everywhere, every chance I get. Do yourself a favor and get out there and SUPPORT LIVE LOCAL MUSIC and the venues that host them! And by all means, join the Funnel of Fun, and let’s mix it up and make a Twister of Terrificness!!! See ya Out and About!!! Don’t forget to check out www.pamusician.net.
