Speaking of festivals, the Annual Briggs Farm Blues Festival did not disappoint. What a great time hanging out in the woods and listening to fantastic music. We were fortunate to spend the weekend camping and enjoying festival life. People who know me well might have just spit out their coffee, as I am more at home in the woods alone on some desolate lake fishing vs. surrounded by happy party-goers till the wee hours of the morning. But for some reason, I feel at home on Briggs Farm. Maybe with the blues playing and the country smells, it brings me back to the farm on the back porch as a kid, listening to Dad and one of the many guitar players that would come up and jam. Hours on end, that same riff or lead over and over just trying to make it perfect. Well, Briggs Farm captures all that and more. So much great music it’s hard to pick a favorite, but for me, it was Brandon “Taz” Niederauer. He and his band were amazing, to say the least. Energy off the charts on every song, loved it! The kind of sweet music I wish my guitar could make. They were an amazing band; just type in tazguitar.com on Google if you haven’t already. All the bands did a great job, and even though some were not “blues,” it seemed the crowd really enjoyed the crossover of genres this year. In the after-hours, the music went on from jam circle to jam circle, echoing through the hills, fires crackling, people laughing, and great music. I’d like to thank Alison and the Briggs family for opening up their farm for such a great event. Please, people, make your plans for next year now and get your tickets early.
We have a couple of new advertisers this month, and I’d like to thank you all for the support. First up is Rhyne & Tabyn McCormick. This father-son duo has been growing a strong following. Formerly The Red Eye Kings, they not only perform as an acoustic duo but also as a full band. You can check them out at facebook.com/mercynowmusic or on the web at themccormickband.com. You can catch them live every weekend throughout August, so go check out the ad on page 11 for the full list of shows. Plenty of options from the Mt Gretna Hideaway on the 2nd to Jimmy Jaxx in Dillsburg on the 17th and just about everywhere in between.
Next up is a solo acoustic act who is no stranger to the scene. Kevin Price, after taking a break from the music scene, is looking to book some solo acoustic gigs. Stay tuned for more info as he works on his social media pages. For now, check out his booking info on the next page and give him a call if you’re looking for a new solo acoustic act.
